For a show of this magnitude, running over four days, and crowded beyond belief - capturing the attention of shoppers is paramount. So kudos to all the young Brand Babes, Promoters and Mascot Models. Your smiles made our day.

Whoever complained that young Singaporeans are pampered and spoilt, has obviously never been to a PC Show.

In four days, the event will attract thousands of visitors fighting to make purchases within a limited space. You need a lot of manpower to create enough noise, over the noise, in order for someone to pay attention to your products.

Because there are so many ad-hoc positions to fill, this demographic is the best option for all - ready pool of human resource for employers, and pocket money for youngsters willing to sweat it out for a few days.

From security guards, to registration girls, to promoters, brand babes and mascot men - these thankless posts are mainly filled by students, part-timers and freelance models.

As early as 11am, an hour before the show starts, the young men and women will arrive to put on their respective uniforms, pile on the make-up, and get into positions.

Once the doors open at noon, they will have to be on their feet, giving all they've got until 9pm, when the show ends. Those holding official positions will try to keep the heaving crowd moving in a semblance of order, while those employed by the exhibitors do their best to create chaos in their attempts to attract more customers. Amazingly, no one has come to blows yet. They just accept this push and pull as part of the demands of the event.

For the life of me, I don't know how these part-timer kids keep so cool and calm. They just go about doing what they have to do - amidst the crowd, above the noise, among the chaos. For that alone, I am impressed. Because even before I could lay my hands on a product, I was already stressed out trying to press my way from the Suntec entrance into a hall - any hall!

|Lun Xin promoting for Gain City| Ok, technically he isn't promoting for PC Show; he is actually dishing flyers for Gain City, which is having a competing mini-event across the road. But hey, it's a hot afternoon, he's in an open area, and trying just as hard to push flyers and pull customers as the rest inside the air-conditioned halls. To me, he is just as unsung a hero as any!

My salute to you all.
