If you read our news piece yesterday about Toshiba halting its HD DVD players and recorders, it’s official now. Toshiba has announced its defeat in the DVD format war. The DVD format war between Toshiba’s HD DVD and Sony’s Blu-ray has been on going for a while already. The previous years have kept many wondering which DVD format will become obsolete and we now know that Sony’s Blu-ray format is now going to be the sole industry’s media format.

This sleek HD700 automatic backup system operates by just being plugged into the PC’s USB port. It can back up to 120GB of your hard drive automatically and the installation process is virtually ClickFree, as its name suggests.

The Taiwanese have a way with innovative technology and recently, Taiwanese company Shuttle Inc has launched a Korporate Perfect Cube (KPC) which consumes very little power and is supposedly very cost effective. The Shuttle KPC K45, a green cube, is designed for work, public use, and personal use. It produces 28dBs less than the standard cooler, and even has a 1-minute customizable interface using the MyKover program.

It’s a sad sad day for HD DVD product manufacturers as Toshiba has officially announced that it will no longer develop and market HD DVD players and recorders. The company aims to cease shipments of its HD DVD products by end March 2008.

Toshiba will continue to provide full product support and service for all its HD DVD products. But since it lost the Blu-ray - HD DVD format war to Sony, we could expect a serendipitous outcome – HD DVD product prices falling.
