The Soul feels good. It’s slim, but not too slim, so it feels snug and secure in your hand. The touch pad is easy to use, and adapts to the phone’s current mode. But really it’s the interface that’s all kinds of joy, twinkling with neat sounds and animations. There’s even a “living world” wallpaper that turns day or night depending on the time, and fireworks appear when you get an SMS. The technical features don’t scream “next generation!” but as a whole, the Soul is a tight little package that will quickly become your new best friend.

Features
Sharp pictures
While not ground-breaking, the Soul definitely holds its own with an auto-focus 5 megapixel camera and a bright LED flash. Face detection and image stabilisation is also incorporated for clearer pictures.

Magical Touch
The best part about the Soul is  the adaptive touch pad, with icons that change depending on the phone’s current usage. Most of the time, it’s the arrow keys and the OK button, but it will also change to math icons in calculator mode, quick-start icons in the main screen, or camera functions in the camera mode.

Customi sable Interface
The Soul comes with different themes, but beyond that each theme is highly customisable, from wallpapers to the colour of your icons in your touchpad, to the sensitivity of the buttons.

Big sound
For fuller sounding music, Samsung bumped up the sound quality by putting Bang & Olufsen’s ICEpower digital amplifier into the phone.

Even if it’s not the greatest phone ever made, it’s an absolute joy to use and comes with an intangible sense of friendliness.
