If you are curious about who took second and third place in the Fastest Geek Competition, well the honourees are Xiu Yan and David Chua, who clocked in 2-mins 23-secs and 2mins 44secs respectively. Unsurprisingly, both are also IT geeks in their careers. Third-time participant, Xiu Yan, an IT engineer, wasn’t lucky enough to win last year but he managed to beat last year’s standing record!

“To be honest, I did not practise specifically for this competition…,” said Xiu Yan. “I have worked with computers for years and am quite familiar with putting computers together… the most important thing is to keep the mind clear, as opposed to practise, … if you lose your cool during the competition, you can’t succeed.”

Well congrats Xiu Yan, as all that clear mindedness not only enabled him to beat last year’s record but also win SGD4,000 worth of IT products in the second prize. For the record, Xiu Yan is also pretty generous, as he will be passing some of the less needed items in his prize to friends who need them more. 

David Chua, also a returning participant, has won himself SGD3,000 worth of products. He only got a consolation prize last year so you bet he stayed calm and confident enough this year to clinch the third place.

 

According to Xiu Yan, the Fastest Geek annual competition is also a great avenue to make like-minded friends.

“I like the nature of the competition, which is why I’ve come back year after year ... I’ve made some friends through this competition, and we try to come back every year if possible.
