The eagerly awaited successor to the Canon EOS 5D finally made its way to Singapore - similarly named but with Mk II markings. Apart from the EOS 5D DSLR carmera, Canon also introduced new cameras in the PowerShot and Digital IXUS series - IXUS 980 IS, IXUS 870 IS, PowerShot SX1 IS, PowerShot SX10 IS and PowerShot G10. These new cameras from Canon are powered by their latest DIGIC 4 technology.
The 21.1 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor equipped EOS 5D Mk II comes with expanded sensitivity range (ISO 100 to 6400, expandable to 50 to 25,600) and Canon claimed that it has significantly lower noise. The EOS 5D MkII is capable of auto-focus full-frame Full HD recording of video clips i.e. 1920 x 1080 at 30 frames per second. Continuous shooting of stills is rated at 3.9 frames per second with burst up to 78 JPEG/13 RAW files.
According to Andrew Koh, director and general manager, Consumer Imaging and Information Division, Canon Singapore, "The anticipation surrounding the release of the successor to the EOS 5D has surpassed all our expectations. With the sheer amount of technology and innovation that this model incorporates, the EOS 5D Mk II representss a major leap in Digital SLR evolution. Once experienced, we are confident the EOS 5D Mk II will impress even the most demanding of photographers."
Nelson Tan, manager, Consumer Imaging & Information Division, Canon Singapore, explaining the various features of the newly launched cameras.
If you are not one to lug around a DSLR, there is the PowerShot G10 which has 14.7 megapixel sensor, optical image stabiliser and 5X optical zoom. Just like the EOS DSLR, the G10 can shoot in RAW and this new iteration of the G series comes with 28m wide angle lens which is good news for taking panorama shots or large group photos.
If you desire high power zoom for whatever reason, the PowerShot SX1 IS and SX10 IS are capable of 20X zoom and come with 10 megapixel sensor. The ultra-sonic motor (USM and the voice coil motor (VCM) ensure high speed and silent motor operations for fast zoom - 20X in 1.3 seconds. The SX1 is the first Canon compact camera which uses CMOS sensor similar to the ones found in the EOS series. Apart from taking stills, the SX1 can record videos in full HD resolution and stereo sounds.
